Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations. Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following-up with consistent discipline and retraining and that management Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions. Formulates both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Site Manager(s) and Director of Operations. Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs. Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts and negotiate new contracts; establishes IWS as a good corporate citizen and valued resource. Works with functional groups to resolve employee relations and labor relations issues. Requirements and Qualifications Requirements: Supervisory experience: 5+ years supervisory/team management experience to include direct and indirect reports. Education and Experience Education: Associate degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 2 years of relevant work experience. Experience: 3 years of work experience (in addition to education requirement) in transportation, logistics, or solid waste operations in which coaching, routing assessments and leading employees Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required Experience in a position involving operations, customer service, community relations, health and safety, financial, and human resources function, experience as a supervisor or manager; experience implementing safety (OSHA) programs and equipment specifications, experience preparing and managing budgets, and experience resolving labor relations issues required. Overview: Interstate Waste Services, parent company of Action Carting in New York City and Interstate Waste Services in Ohio and Northern New Jersey/Southern New York State, and NOW CT, is one of the most progressive and innovative providers of non-hazardous waste management services, serving a diverse range of industrial and commercial customers. We are looking to add several Diesel Mechanics to our team in the Old Bridge, NJ depot. Our Diesel Mechanics play a key role in keeping our company running. Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.: Our Diesel Mechanics perform inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, including diesel heavy trucks and engines. Utilizing diagnostic software, the Mechanic is responsible for interpreting failure modes and initiate or assign necessary repairs. At times, the Mechanic may be on call, and required to assist with emergency breakdowns. Requirements and Qualifications We are continuously investing in equipment, and many of our trucks are less than 2 years old. The Diesel Mechanics will be working out of Old Bridge, NJ Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided The Diesel Mechanic position may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent squatting and standing is required. Requirements Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required. CDL preferred. Experience working on heavy duty diesel equipment OR training from a recognized trade school is required. Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with colleagues, drivers and dispatch, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records. Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position. Must be able to provide own tools Entry-level candidates will be considered for this position and on-the-job training provided. Candidates with the following experience may be considered for a Mechanic B or A level position which has a higher level of responsibility as well a compensation: 2+ years experience working as a heavy duty Diesel Mechanic Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems diagnostic software such as Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt, and Paccar.
