Overview: Under the supervision of the Cardiopulmonary Services Medical Director and Department Director, the Respiratory Therapist performs direct patient care to patients in all aspects of respiratory care according to the physicians orders/approved protocols, with consideration given to the age of the patient. The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities in the cardiopulmonary system. The clinical work includes: Setting up and managing mechanical ventilation. Emergency care. Assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and intubations. Monitoring physiological responses to therapy. Educating patients and their families about their conditions. Teaching appropriate disease management techniques. Qualifications: Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Graduate of accredited associate's degree respiratory program. Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Overview: Assists Supervisor in planning, scheduling, coordinating and problem solving in the assigned Laboratory area. Involved with instrument validation, correlations, new procedures, and special projects. Performs Laboratory procedures, some requiring advance knowledge and skills. Operates lab instrumentation to provide clinical data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Makes independent judgment decisions in the reporting of normal and abnormal results. Sets up new Quality Control (QC) lots and reviews quality control routinely. Assists with competencies. Qualifications: Required Education: Bachelor's degree. Specific course work: Bachelor's degree in Human Science (such as biology, chemistry, medical technology, and clinical/medical laboratory science). Necessary Skills: 1.
