Eaton's Motors Center of Excellence, a part of our Aerospace division, is currently seeking a Lead Motor Engineer to join our team. This position will be based out of either our Grand Rapids or Southfield, MI office. Position Overview: This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Manager within the SwEC COE primarily supporting development of motors for electromechanical actuators and fuel and hydraulic pumps. This candidate will be expected to participate in motor topology selection and perform the electromagnetic design of motors for aerospace motors. Expected motor types will be AC induction and Brushless DC, with Brushless DC expected to be the primary architecture for new programs. In this function you will: Participate in new product development teams to provide motor expertise in architecture trade off studies Assist in and provide recommendations for motor types and motor sizing with collaboration from product team and electronic motor controller team Electromagnetic design of Brushless DC and/or AC induction motors using magnetic modeling tools Develop and manage requirements and compliance for motors Assist in motor packaging and mechanical design with mechanical engineering and drafting resources Recommend development testing for motors, write development test procedures and reports, support the test engineering group for performing the testing When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we - as individuals and as a company - are stronger. Candidates must reside in a 50-mile radius of either Grand Rapids, MI or Southfield, MI. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without company sponsorship. This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Understanding of magnetic modeling tools (lumped parameters and Electromagnetic FE) for motor performance (e.g. Ansys RMxprt and Maxwell 2D & 3D, Speed, etc). Understanding of motor manufacturing methods and processes Independent, data-based decision making, innovative, ability to work on cross functional teams and across different sites and time zones Position Criteria: Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Good analytical skills and strong business acumen to understand consequences of decisions Strong communication and presentation skills - both verbal and written Awareness of international cultures Ability to work in a matrix environment, get results and drive change through others. Effective oral and written communication skills as well as planning and organizational skills. Ability to manage by influence through solid relationships and process focus Ability to effectively present results and recommendations to senior-level executive team.
