Department CENTER FOR GLOBAL HEALTH (IN-CGLH-IUINA) Department Information This position will provide administrative program management support for the IU Center for Global Health Equity (Center) research programs, with a primary focus on the AMPATH Research Program and Network in Kenya. The program manager facilitates the day-to-day operations for their assigned programs, ensuring that the program goals and objectives are met. This position will assist in coordinating the financial, legal, business, reporting, communications, and logistical operations for the Center's research programs. They will liaise with Kenyan research program leadership and staff as well as AMPATH Consortium institutions on AMPATH Kenya Research Program operations. This position will report to the assistant director of research and will be crucial to providing the director and assistant director with the tools and information needed to help direct the research vision of the Center and the AMPATH Research Program in Kenya. This position will be the primary administrator for the AMPATH Research Program and Network and, along with Kenyan counterparts (including the AMPATH Research Program Manager based in Kenya), will be responsible for managing and implementing program budgets, ensuring compliance with program policies and procedures, supporting the development of research infrastructure in Kenya, and managing facilities and assets in Kenya. Along with the assistant director, this position will be responsible for supporting the Center's expansion of research engagement and will support the implementation of the Center's research activities, mission, and vision as a whole. Job Summary Department-Specific Responsibilities Tracks key research program metrics for programs falling within the purview of AMPATH Research, Kenya (e.g., number of research projects, total award dollars, scientific publications, D43 metrics). Prepares regular program reports and updates for IUCGHE and AMPATH Kenya research program leadership and stakeholders (e.g., monthly report to AMPATH Consortium, quarterly report to the IU SOM Dean, Annual AMPATH Kenya Research Report). Provides administrative management of research program policies and procedures, including creating, reviewing, updating, and implementing program SOPs. Supports hiring, training and professional development of research personnel and support staff at IUCGH and AMPATH research programs. Supports hosting and promoting research-related events at the Center and AMPATH Kenya (e.g., quarterly IUCGHE Research Speaker Series, annual half-day research symposium at AMPATH Kenya). Contributes to strategic planning to identify research program priorities, create program workplans, and monitor progress towards program goals and milestones (including strategic planning sessions, workshops, SWOT analyses, etc.). Provides administrative management that supports research database development and updates, facilitates research visitor requests, and initiates approval processes for publications, research concepts, etc. Leads publishing a monthly AMPATH research program newsletter. Liaises with IUCGHE Communications Director to provide research-related content (stories, research articles, conferences, etc.) for IUCGHE and AMPATH publications and social media. Works with IUCGHE Communications Director to update and improve research websites and pages. Responds to general queries about IUCGHE and AMPATH Kenya research programs. Serves as the primary research liaison with other research offices (regulatory, sponsored projects, etc.) and for the AMPATH Consortium. Coordinates (scheduling, reminders, agendas, meeting minutes) research program meetings and events. Provides guidance on institutional and sponsored grants administration to ensure compliance with federal and local policies With the IUCGHE research assistant director, senior business manager, and AMPATH Kenya research program manager, conduct financial reporting and planning for research programs. With the IUCGHE senior business manager, research program manager for AMPATH based in Kenya, and head of the Research and Sponsored Projects Office (RSPO) in Kenya, support administration and management of the AMPATH Research Facility Fee. Participates in conferences, webinars, trainings, and other continuing education sessions to provide up to date guidance and information for IUCGHE and AMPATH research leadership in priority areas. Identifies and contributes to ways that the IUCGHE and AMPATH research programs can actively engage in and support diversity, equity and inclusion and de-colonizing global health. General Responsibilities Plans, directs and implements programs or events, including the creation of materials to support these events. Provides staff communications and serves as liaison to program participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, vendors and the public; approves staff purchase requests; arranges staff travel, accommodations, and research activities. Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on a variety of issues such as budget management software and advanced strategies for timely spending of grant funds. May be responsible for meeting revenue targets. Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students and volunteers. Mentors, serves as a resource and provides guidance to team staff members as needed. Researches available grants and works closely with managers to identify funding needs and potential sources, creates grant proposals that further advance support of the program and program participants. May be responsible for meeting revenue targets. Constructs and administers program budgets and approves spending. Tracks progress on deliverables, analyzes data on projected spending and prepares reports for higher management and funding sources. Keeps abreast of best practices to recommend policies and procedures that deliver a quality program experience. Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Advertised Salary $61,000 - $71,000 per year based on experience and internal pay equity.
