You'll be reading and interpreting system/network design maps. Verifying as built documentation; Comparing findings in the field with existing documentation and reporting findings following Company standard process. Splicing and/or terminating coaxial and fiber optics cables, mounting active and passive devices, both aerial and underground (cabinets and vaults), activating actives devices and testing to ensure optimal performance of all equipment in the HFC/fiber optic plant to Company, manufacturer, and design specifications. Performing surveys to determine if customer-requested locations are capable of receiving service. Creating maps/drawings as necessary to assist in estimating costs for plant/drop extensions if location is beyond acceptable distance from existing plant. Performing underground facility locates accurately using plant maps and electronic locating equipment in order to prevent cable damage and service interruptions. Performing construction maintenance duties as necessary including: splicing aerial/underground coaxial and/or fiber optic cables and equipment to restore cable plant to system specification; splicing and activating new coaxial plant; repairing and/or replacing damaged aerial/underground plant; and inspecting, repairing and/or replacing power supplies. Continuously monitoring plant for ingress/egress and performs signal leakage ride-out activities and tracks and repairs signal leakage, as necessary. Training system technical personnel as directed by local system management. Qualifications One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must successfully complete Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting position. A working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) and other related test equipment. Knowledgeable of rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies impacting the operation of a telecommunications system including, but not limited to, FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT, as well as all local ordinances. Must possess a valid driver's license of the state in which the individual is employed. The position requires the ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work or when on-call. Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required. Coursework including 24 semester hours of the following: A minimum of 12 credit hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology 6 credit hours in chemistry 6 credit hours in biology Histology Technician (HT) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required by start date Histotechnologist (HTL): Bachelor's degree required. Histotechnologist (HTL) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required by start date Additional Qualifications Graduate of a NAACLS accredited program preferred. Graduates of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Histology Technician Program will receive preference. Ability to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off shifts, holidays, on-call, and weekend work assignments. Employees obtaining certification(s) after January 1, 2004, will be required to demonstrate evidence of ongoing maintenance of certification.
