Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs testing and inspection of in-process and finished tubing and metrology equipment to assure compliance with established product and customer specifications. This position will test the quality of the tubing at various stages of production. This position is responsible for calibrating all measuring tools within the mill. The quality lab technician is also responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Passivation area as well as the vapor degreaser and all testing that is required in that area.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Perform chemical and physical tests necessary to show compliance with customer and industry specifications and established quality levels. These tests include but are not limited to: Tensile Testing, Hardness Testing, Corrosion Testing, Metallographic Sample preparation, Grain Size evaluations, Surface roughness testing, Manipulation Tests, (Bend, Flare, Flange), Chemical evaluation tests (Macro-etch, Passivation Tests), Other tests as required by specification or customer PO.
* Work toward obtain proficiency (Levels 1, 2, or 3) in Eddy Current and/or Ultrasonic non-destructive test methods. Assist with NDT testing as needed.
* Perform calibration of test and measuring equipment according to the established calibration schedule. Oversee submittal of measuring and test equipment for outside calibration testing and review external calibration reports for acceptability.
* Perform or assist with product and process quality audits.
* Assure accurate and clear recording of test data, and ease of retrieval of quality lab records.
* Provide Quality Assurance support to production floor as necessary for troubleshooting of yield issues.
* Perform lab cleaning and organization activities as necessary to maintain a safe and efficient working area.
* All other duties assigned as needed by the Quality Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS and EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
* High School Diploma or GED is required
* Experience or familiarity with the following: Tensile Testing, Rockwell Hardness, Testing Surface Roughness determination, Metallographic sample preparation and evaluation Corrosion Testing, Grain size determination, Nondestructive testing including Ultrasonic, Eddy Current, Radiographs, Liquid Penetrant or Helium Leak testing, preferred.
* Familiarity with ISO9001 / AS9100 quality systems
* Interpretation and application of various military, industrial, and customer specifications to the manufacture of product.
* Experience with hand tools.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Microsoft Project.
* Must have the ability to represent Plymouth Tube Company in a professional manner.
* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each day all essential job duty satisfactorily.
* Must be able to read, write and perform basic math calculations without difficulty or additional assistance.
* Must be trainable and be able to demonstrate acceptable levels of comprehension on various types of equipment and machinery and various aspects of intricate production techniques.
* Must be able to demonstrate strong general mechanical skills.
* Must be able to concentrate in a dynamic work environment and be detail-oriented in order to maintain desired levels of quality.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, at times can be high. Majority of work is performed inside (non-climate controlled facility). Employees in this position are regularly required to walk, stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel. They are frequently required to reach with hands and arms. They are occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear and regularly required to lift 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds. Safety glasses, hearing protection and other PPE are required in designated areas.
