Ensures compliance with CAP and Joint Commission accreditation and safety requirements EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Seven years' working experience as a Scientist in Histotechnology is required. Two years' experience using a laboratory information system (LIS). Bachelor's degree in medical technology or an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science from an accredited college or university. Education/training must include the following: 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hors of biology and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination AND Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical training program approved or accredited by the Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above) OR at least three months of recorded laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) as a Scientist in Histotechnology (HTL). POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES The primary purpose of Sterile Processing is to assist in direct patient care by ensuring the Operating Room staff has correct, fully functional, sterile surgical instrumentation delivered in a timely manner consistent with the highest standards of customer service. Instrument Techs are asked to perform the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy. The manner in which an Instrument Tech will perform these duties will be characterized by resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism. Techs are expected to build and maintain a comprehensive body of knowledge with respect to the standards and procedures associated with the preparation, sterilization, storage, and delivery of surgical instrumentation. National certification through the International Association of Healthcare Service Materiel Management as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required within one (1) year from the date of hire. POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the overall organization and administering of the primary stroke program, ensuring all aspects of care is delivered to the stroke patient from admission throughout the continuum of care, to patient disposition. Works collaboratively with patients, families, hospital staff, healthcare providers and community groups to optimize patient care and promote primary stroke center designation. Utilizes principles of program management, advanced clinical care and leadership to execute PI initiatives and education of staff, patient and community. Collaborates with hospitals and professional organizations to facilitate the development of the stroke program; assessing community needs; participating in meetings as appropriate; providing expertise in the area of stroke specialization. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing is required, BSN required or willing to enroll in a program within 12 months of hire. MSN preferred. Must have at least three years clinical or hospital nursing with two years' experience in Neurological Critical and/or Emergency Care setting; evidence of advanced clinical knowledge, leadership abilities, and teaching skills preferred. Previous experience in stroke care, data collection and analysis is desired. Work experience with the operation of personal computers and Microsoft Office software is expected. LICENSURE Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nursing in the State of Texas. National certification, SCRN, required or must be obtained within 18 months of hire Current training in Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) is required.
